Review | My Little Box October 2017

So I've been a bit MIA the last couple of weeks. I recently started a new job, and well, I'm finding it very stressful. But I want to get back into blogging properly. So to kick things off, we've got my regular My Little Box review.

If you read last months review, you'll know I was not happy in the slightest. Whilst this months is still not amazing, or anywhere close to MLB's best, it is much better than September's box.

For October, MLB have teamed up with one of my favourite stores, Asos, Instead of the usual box, this months goodies came in a gorgeous canvas bag, that can be re-used to store make up, art supplies or anything your heart desires.

Review | My Little Box September 2017

I like to keep things on this happy, talk about things that I've been enjoying, whether that's music, fashion or things I've been doing.
Unfortunatley, this post is not going to be particularly happy.

If  you read regularly, you'll know I've been receiving the French monthly subscription service, My Little Box, since they launched in the UK, so for three years now. I've always raved about them on here, and to friends and family, and am rarely disappointed. Until now. Sigh.

First off, this months box was late. Very late. Like over two weeks late. There was email or message on their site to say it would be late, nor has there been any explanation for the delay as I write this.
Second, usually there is 5 products for each month -2 lifestyle/fashion and 3 beauty- there was only 4 this month. That I can deal with. If the products are good. However, the products this month were extremely disappointing and I'll only be able to use 1/4 of them.

There's a lot of upset customer regarding this months box, but I'll try to go into this review as normal, and give my honest and unbiased opinions.

Sorry in advance for this disappointing, and maybe a little angry review. MLB have let me down big time.

We Need to Talk About... Sophia Lillis.

On Tuesday evening, two friends and I went to see the new IT remake. I was in love.
Now let me tell you, I've been hyped up about this film since they announced they were remaking. When they released the trailer, my excitement levels exploded.
When Tuesday night rolled around, thankfully, I was not disappointed. It's not a perfect film by any means, but I think it's one of my favourite horror movies already. And I'm not someone who particularly enjoys the horror genre, so that's saying something.

But there was one person who stuck out the most for me.
Sophia Lillis plays Beverly Marsh, the only girl in the group of teenage misfits, who band together to form "The Losers Club" and take down the evil Pennywise.
At just 15, Sophia's resume includes 37 and A Midsummer nights dream, and she'll soon appear on Sharp Objects.

It was Lillis' sweet charm and brave personality that transpired throughout the film. For me she stole the whole show.
I've seen others say they didn't like her character being portrayed as a damsel in distress, but I didn't see it like that. I saw Beverly as a young girl who was strong and kicks ass despite all the awful things that she endured in her life.

I get strong Molly Ringwald vibes in Sophia. And no, I'm not just saying that due to her red hair, or a certain line that appears in IT. I truly believe this girl has long career ahead of her. Her charming and relatable personality mixed in with pure talent will take her far. Coming from me, that's big. I'm a huge Molly Ringwald fan.

Her performance in IT, is memorable, and, surprisingly, her first real big break.
I'm excited to see what the future will bring this young, spirited red head.

#ThrowbackThursday | Gossip Girl

It's official. It's been exactly ten years since the first episode of Gossip Girl graced our TV screens.
Ten Years.
Yeah, I feel old. I remember watching the adverts in the run up to the first season, and making sure I was ready for when the first episode hit. I hooked from the very beginning. The drama, relationships, the love triangles -everything bout this show had me wishing for that ultra-chic life of coolest teenagers on the Upper East Side.

Based on Cecily Von Ziegesar's best selling YA series of the same name, The show was an instant hit across the world. I'm serious. This show was all we talked about on myspace. (see I swear I'm getting old!)

Gossip Girl did a lot for our generation. I believe it had a big impact on social media, I mean, come on, bloggers have a lot to thank GG for. It put Blake Lively on the map for being a total style icon and the actress to watch. It brought us some incredible one liners -I'm Chuck Bass- and of course it brought us Dorota.

But if I'm going to be honest, the main reason we tuned into GG week after week, was the incredible fashion.  Rocking the seasons It-bag and beautiful designer pieces put our school uniforms to shame. Blair and Serena taught me a lot of things about dressing up, and brought me a ton of inspiration along the way.

So, naturally, we need to take a little trip down NYC's memory lane. Expect envy and lust to take over you...

Reading & Leeds 2017 | My Recommendations.

It's almost bank holiday weekend, which means its almost time for the UK's favourite (probably) music festival.

Reading and Leeds is one of the UK's biggest festivals and happens yearly over the course of the August bank holiday weekend.
The thing I love the most about R&L, is the fact that it doesn't just stick to one particular genre. It doesn't matter if you're into rock, rap or EDM -there's something there for everyone.

If you're heading to either of the festival sites this weekend, these are the artists I think you should check out.

Review | My Little Box August 2017

For August, My Little Box have taken inspiration from Western Africa's bold and irreverent wax prints, to create their Wild Summer box.
The patterns are beautiful, loud, powerful and elegant; perfect for summer and the upcoming festivals. Although, I do feel MLB spent a lot of time working on those and not so much what went inside the box. This isn't the worst box I've received, don't get me wrong, but I do feel there is something missing, that it could of been so much more.
I'll let you decide...

Boardmasters 2017 | My Recommendations.

Set in the beautiful surroundings of Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay, Boardmasters is the one of the few festivals that combines live music with surfing, skateboarding, BMX, and some of the best after parties. There's a surf village (basically a little shopping area where you can get great deals on vans as well as other fun stuff) and signings from pro surfers and skateboarders.
This year the #RoxyFitness movement is coming to Watergate Bay for morning yoga sessions, (more info here) and the World Surf League returns for short and longboarders froth on Fistral Beach.

Unfortunately, I'm not going to be there. So I'll be spending the week living vicariously through my brother whilst he works and has the best time there.

With over 40,000 people heading to Cornwall for the festival this week, 2017 is set to be Boardmasters biggest year yet.

I've posted my music recommendations below!

We Need to Talk About... Madelaine Petsch.

Unless you've been living under a rock for the last couple of months, you'll know what Riverdale is.
Netflix's take on the Archie comics, is dark, twisted and alluring. Imagine if Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars had some crazy, badass lovechild. Yeah, you've basically got Riverdale.

I know, I know. I'm a little late to the party. But I binge-watched the entire first season in under 48 hours. If that doesn't tell you how good this show is, then I don't know what does.

Upfront and centre, is the insanely gorgeous Madelaine Petsch. She plays Riverdale's resident scheming bitch, Cheryl Blossom, who could easily be played off as your stereo-typical, high school mean girl, but Petsch brings complexity and spice to the Queen B. Think Blair Waldorf and you're right area.

South African born Petsch, is uber-stylish. Whilst Cheryl is more made up and glam, Madelaine is more into comfy and casual clothes when off set. And when she does dress up, it's a little more contemporary than her character's. She's not afraid of wearing reds and oranges -something redheads tend to steer clear of. Madelaine's trademark red hair, porcelain skin and big lips makes her look like a real life Jessica Rabbit or Poison Ivy.

Also, we need to talk about her incredibly, luscious, long locks of red hair. I have the exact same colour hair and my ultimate goal is to have it look like hers.

Can you tell I have the biggest girl crush on her?!

#ThrowbackThursday | Michelle Tanner

Credit | Credit

A couple of weeks ago I made a We Need To Talk About... for the Olsen twins. But since I'm currently binge watching Full House on Netflix, it seemed appropriate to make this post.

Michelle Tanner was the twins first and, arguably, best role, that they shared from 1987-1995.
Despite only being 8 when the sitcom ended, the twins were household names and already two of Hollywood's hottest property. Now, they're busy running their fashion empire in New York and have quit acting.
Unless I didn't make it clear in their WNTTA blog post, these two are major fashion inspo for me. But whilst binge watching Full House, I noticed their fashion choices have always been completely on point. Say hello to scrunchies and overalls galore!

It's weird to think of  a 5 year old as a fashionista, but Michelle was full of badass attitude and had a spunk to match. She was sassy and just crazy cool.
Her outfits were quirky and cute, but remember that Uncle Jesse was her bestie, so of course she threw in a little rocker edge sometimes. (actually maybe I'll do a #TBT for Jesse -his outfits were amazing!)

P.S. I've decided to start another series, #ThrowbackThursday, where I talk about fashion and styles I love from previous decades. let me know what you think!

Warped Tour 2017 | My Recommendations.

The ultimate punk rock summer camp is back!
Warped Tour is just about to start it's 22nd year of tornado-ing around North America and with it comes lots of incredible bands and musicians.
This year features "harder" bands than the typical pop punk ones that have dominated the last couple of years. Don't worry though, there's still your fair share of pop punk to listen to!

So if you're going to the tour, here's some recommendations from me to you. Enjoy yourself and think of me good ol' Blightly!

We Need to Talk About... Mary Kate & Ashley.

Everyone knows the Olsen twins. And if you don't what exactly were you doing in the 90s/00's???
Along with Vanessa Hudgens, Mary Kate and Ashley have been my ultimate girl crushes since, well, for as long as I can remember.
Starting off as child actors on Full House, they transitioned into bonafide Hollywood actresses, before becoming two of fashion's most trusted designers, with their brands The Row, Elizabeth & James, Olsenboye and Style Mint.

I grew up watching their show So Little Time, and movies like New York Minute and Our Lips Are Sealed are still some of my favourites to this day.
Growing up I was in love with them. They're real, genuine and down to earth. But also, their fashion choices have had a big impact me. (Honestly, it was so hard to narrow their outfits down for this blogpost.)  Whilst some people dismiss their style as "weird", for me it's bohemian chic at its finest.

They both love layers, and investing in pieces that can be used for all occasions. Many say their style is scruffy, but I love their low-key aesthetic.
Ashley's style is more glam, girly and put together. While MK is all about accessorising and a little rock 'n' roll thrown in. Although, both are memorable, influential and timeless.

Whenever the pair step out, I'm always taking note of the way they style pieces.

These two offer endless inspiration to me.

Skiathos x Skopelos.

After my trip to Bali, I spent 6 days at home  before hopping back on a plane to the beautiful Greek island of Skiathos!

Whilst Bali was filled to the brim with activities, water sports and driving round the island, Skiathos was a more laid back and relaxing holiday. My mum and I had booked this at the end of last summer, and we couldn't wait to explore more of the Greek islands.
We spent most of the week on Skiathos, but hopped on a boat to go their neighbouring island, Skopelos, for two days.
The two have gained recent popularity from the film, Mamma Mia, and I was worried they may have been ruined from tourists coming to see the filming locations.
Fortunately, both islands remain mostly undisturbed and in their natural culture.
With gorgeous, white buildings and independent boutiques, their towns are filled with the Greek lifestyle we crave. The beaches are covered in white sand with crystal clear waters making tiny, glassy waves.

The food was incredible -we honestly didn't have a bad meal while we were there- and the locals are so friendly and happy to chat and help with any questions you may have. It's clear they are very proud of their Greek heritage.

Honestly, there is something about the Greek islands that keep you wanting more. Maybe it's the beaches, the locals, the culture. Or maybe it's all of the above plus some more.

All I know is, I'm craving the Greek way of life

Surf Sistas.

Two weeks ago I set out on a brave new adventure.
Travelling alone to Bali seemed like the scariest thing ever. And to be honest, it was. At 23, it's the biggest thing I have ever done.

I met up with the Surf Sistas crew at Denpasar airport, and had the most amazing ten days.
I've never laughed so much, or been filled with so much love and positivity.
Our days were filled with surfing, yoga and dancing. I met some of the most kindest and caring people, who looked after me and never failed to make me smile. And I know I'm going to be friends with them for a long time. But, maybe more importantly, I pushed myself out of my comfort zone. I set out on some mad adventure that my brain said I would never be able to do -I almost didn't. I did it though, and the world rewarded me with magic!

Good times. Good vibes.
Roll on the next surf adventure.
